An 8.8 magnitude earthquake struck Chile on February 27, 2010. The loss of life and damages have been significant. Please donate to the relief organizations that are helping the victims of this catastrophe.
The American Red Cross pledged $50,000 from their International Response Fund has also been providing donation information and users have been contributing additional information on the organization’s blog. Cell phone users can donate $10 to the Red Cross by texting “CHILE” to 90999.
Habitat for Humanity has an established presence in Chile and has created an online donation form to help raise funds to create shelters for displaced, low-income victims of the Chile quake. Cell phone users can also text CHILE to 25383 to donate $10.
Operation USA is also sending emergency relief to Chile. Users can text REBUILD to 50555 to donate $10 to Operation USA’s Chile disaster relief efforts or donate money, United Airline miles, or other goods at the group’s Web site.
World Vision’s Save the Children is also gearing up to send an emergency assessment team to Chile and has been asking for donations to it’s Children’s Emergency Fund. Cell phone users can also text CHILE to 20222 to donate $10 to World Vision.
Sponsor a Child has also reworked their Web site to direct users who wish to donate to the organization while its emergency response team mobilizes.
